Trust Rock & Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland to keep super fans on their toes and sometimes confused as Steve Hofmeyr trying to figure out how many kids he has. The creators really like to fuck with us.
Back in 2017, on the 1st of April, Adult Swim premiered the first episode of the much anticipated season 3 of Rick & Morty by streaming it in a constant loop on their website until midnight. And then fokol happened the next week. And the week after that. And it carried on like that until the 30th of July, 2017 when the subsequent episodes were finally released weekly. Fans had to wait three months! It was the perfect April Fool’s joke. Or was it the perfect anti-April Fool’s joke? Who knwos?
Then exactly a year later, again on the first of April, we got treated to a TV short called Bushworld Adventures where, in an alternate universe, Australian versions of Rick and Morty go on a “bushland adventure” to Bendigo in search of Rick’s Green Cube:
This in the year of our lord and the pandemic of 2021, again on April Fool’s Day, Ricky And Morty delivered another epic April fool’s prank with an intro for a fake new series titled Rick And Morty Babies. It looks fucking insane. The response? Fans were so obsessed that they’re demanding actual episodes! I fully agree.
Make it fokken happen:
Not even a month after the 2021 April Fool’s prank, it was announced that there will be some sort of an 8-bit Rick & Morty special entitled Rick + Morty in the Eternal Nightmare Machine rolling out tonight in the US! You will be able to catch it Showmax tomorrow (Saturday the 1st of May). There is not much known about this special episode but it is expected to be around 30 minutes in duration. It was created by the accomplished Australian pixel-animator, Paul Robertson. He is famous for productions such as the opening couch gag for The Simpsons’ My Fare Lady, and an episode of Gravity Falls entitled Fight Fighters.
He also created a pixel-animated promo of Rick and Morty’s third season:
This little pixelated special also happens to come with some very exciting news – season 5 of Rick & Morty is heading our way! Adult Swim has announced that the show will roll out cross the globe starting on Sunday, the 20th of June, which means we will be able to watch it in South Africa on Monday, the 21st of June!
Put in some leave, take the Monday off, gooi a braai and declare it Rick & Morty Day with us!

#6 Stream these indie movies on Showmax The meaning of the term “indie” when it comes to movies is pretty fluid – no one can really agree on a strict definition. The term used to refer to movies made without the backing of a major Hollywood studio. But nowadays, if recent recipients of the Independent Spirit Awards are anything to go by, indie movies can include films that are free, bold, quirky, edgy and unafraid, no matter who they’re made by |

#1 A chocolate box full of Afrikaans shows and movies With COVID-19 still swinging the axe and a third wave of infections looming on the horizon, we are just over a year into the South African lockdown. Sure, we’re only on level 1.2b amended version 8 beta and we feel a little more cautiously optimistic since the driest Krismis in history, but I came to the shocking realisation that I have not seen the inside of a movie cinema or smelled that buttery popcorn in more than a year! |
