It doesn’t feel like any of last year’s long weekends counted at all, so welcome to the first proper long weekend of 2020 and 2021. I’ve found some kak lekker series to keep you busy the entire long weekend. Put together, there are almost 30 seasons of entertainment and I’m pretty sure that like myself, even if you have watched some of the stuff on the list, you haven’t watched close third of it. I’ve arranged the titles from the kakkest to best rating for your convenience. The “worst” rating on the list is 6.1 – not that it is a is kak rating at all. And then the rest jump into the sevens and eights.
Room 104 (season 1-4)
One hotel room, many stories. That’s the premise behind this fascinating anthology series that features all the guests who spend the night in a New York hotel room. Some episodes are hilarious, some sad, some horrifying, some thrilling – there’s something for everyone in Room 104. What really happens in airport motel rooms? Nouma, kyk and find out!
6.1 rating.
We Are Who We Are (season 1)
Two American teenagers explore their identities while living on a military base in an Italian seaside town. Creator Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) explores friendship, first love and the anguish of being a teenager. Lekker teen angst for the immature crowd who sukkel to get a handle on things.
7.2 rating.
Superstore (season 1 to 5)
This moerse popular comedy about the employees at an American superstore returns. Binge the first five seasons on Showmax. The cast includes Golden Globe winner America Ferrera (Ugly Betty) in a Teen Choice-nominated role, Emmy nominee Ben Feldman (Silicon Valley, Mad Men), and Nico Santos (Crazy Rich Asians), in a Critics Choice-nominated role. I watched it when season 1 came out and had a jol. I never realised that more seasons came out, so this is part of my long weekend treat. If you have DStv, you can watch season 6 as well.
7.8 rating.
The Capture (season 1)
A riveting British crime mini-series which I don’t know from a bar of soap. When a British soldier is charged with a crime, the tenacious young detective handling his case begins to uncover a multi-layered conspiracy. I’ll give this one a go as well. Maybe klap the entire season 1 on Sunday?
7.8 rating.
PEN15 (season 1-2)
From The Lonely Island comes this cringe-worthy comedy about two 13-year-old girls entering middle school in the year 2000, complete with dial-up internet hassles, school dance mishaps and the intimacy of shared Discmans. This series got rave reviews when it first came out and I’m finally making time for it this weekend.
8.0 rating.
High Maintenance (season 1-4)
A comedy that explores the private lives of unique New York individuals through a common thread: their weed deliveryman. Yup, High Maintenance follows an NYC pot dealer with a list of clients with neuroses as diverse as the city, providing a glimpse into the private lives of customers – and how they light things up. Have fun with it, zolkoppe! Tell my what you think of this one?
8.1 rating.
The Rookie (season 1 to 3)
One of my wife’s favorites which she discovered on DStv. We did it the wrong wat around because we started watching season 3. Noe we have the option to catch up with the first two seasons. What is it about? Starting over isn’t easy, especially for John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of joining the LAPD. As their oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from those who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. Features Nathan Fillion from Castle and Firefly.
8.2 rating.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (season 1 to 7)
Season 7 is available!! Did you even know? It came out as we were distracted by the lockdown last year and this weekend is the perfect time for me to watch season 7 because I quickly burnt through the first 6 seasons. For those who don’t know this fokken hilarious cop comedy, it goes like this: Detective Jake Peralta is a great cop, but also a total goofing slacker. Fortunately he and his fellow oddball colleagues are also great at their job. Since its 2013 debut, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has racked up 2 Emmy Awards and 2 Golden Globes.
8.4 rating.

Need more streaming goodness? Check out our top 10 list of movies and TV series picks from the Plumlist. It is my to-go-to website when I’m stuck for streaming ideas from Netflix, Showmax and Amazon Prime:
#10. The best series coming to Showmax in 2021 No matter what unfolds on a global level in 2021, one thing’s for sure – there’s an incredible line-up of entertainment heading to Showmax subscribers’ screens. This is the projection for the rest of the year so far – the list will keep being updated as the months go by. |

# 9. A sit-down with Rael Rosen himself, Glen Biderman-Pam He’s a stand-up comedian, writer, actor and director, who went viral late last year with his spoof of the Oscar-nominated documentary My Octopus Teacher, but we think we can now officially say that Glen Biderman-Pam is best known for his brilliant performance as Rael Rosen, one half (with Darren) of GoldProp, Cape Town’s most ambitious property start-up. |

#8 Series and movies to stream on Apple TV+ in South Africa Like its electronic devices, Apple TV+ maintains a superior attitude of slick classiness, making it highly desirable. In the arena with streaming platforms like Netflix, Showmax and Amazon Prime in South Africa, and multiple other on-demand services in the US, Apple TV+ is a relatively new player, having launched at the end of 2019 – but it has some quality content, which is increasing all the time, and the awards committees are taking notes. |

#7 Six fierce Irish films for a St Patrick’s Day movie marathon Top of the mornin’ to ya. There’s something special about the magical and mystical island known as Ireland. It’s a place where luck runs good and bad, leprechauns inspire cereals, beer looks like Coca-Cola and passions run deep! |

#6 Seven women-led titles for your next me-time binge-watch session It’s March. Easter is looming like a chocolate-filled, diet-smashing monster on the horizon. There’s definitely more of a chill in the air as summer starts to wind down. It was also International Women’s Day on 8 March, and all of these mean it’s the perfect time to binge-watch some of our favourite series and movies with women in the lead roles. |

#5 Anton Taylor as Darren is the ultimate ride-or-die There’s no doubt that Tali’s Wedding Diary and Tali’s Baby Diary wouldn’t be as funny without Tali’s out-and-out craziness or the cocky swagger of the inimitable Rael Rosen. But Tali can only be that crazy and Rael that confident because they both know they have a ride-or-die partner in life and/or business who’ll always be there for them |

4# Seven of the best Amazon Original movies to stream on Prime Video HBO’s dystopian space opera has made waves with its bold vision and sweeping visuals of desolate alien landscapes, all filmed in Cape Town. But it’s not only the gorgeous cinematography, typical of anything Ridley Scott, that’s had fans gripped, eagerly following each episode. |

#3 The psychotic ego of Mark Hofmann in Murder Among the Mormons The title of, and the trailer for, this latest three-part Netflix original docuseries is sensationalist and a tad misleading. Yes, there was murder. Yes, Mormons were involved – directly and indirectly |

#2 Talking Tali with Julia Anastasopoulos You probably know Julia Anastasopoulos’s face, but maybe not her name. Or at least, not her real name. As SuzelleDIY and @tali_babes, she’s created two of the most hilarious characters ever to tickle South Africa’s funny bones. |

[feature_headline type=”left, center, right” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h3″ icon=”lightbulb-o”] Our randomized trailer pick of the week [/feature_headline]
Each week we take a number from 1 to 10 from our list of suggestions and put it through a randomizer to choose a trailer to show you. This week it landed on our number 1 spot, “Twelve movies starring Tom Hanks to watch online” and from that list, we’ve selected the 1994 classic and winner of no less than 6 Oscars, Forrest Gump
an absolute classic to enjoy this long weekend:
Stupid is as stupid does, says Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-winning performance) as he discusses his relative level of intelligence with a stranger while waiting for a bus. Despite his sub-normal IQ, Gump leads a truly charmed life, with a ringside seat for many of the most memorable events of the second half of the 20th century. Entirely without trying, Forrest teaches Elvis Presley to dance, becomes a football star, meets John F. Kennedy, serves with honor in Vietnam, meets Lyndon Johnson, speaks at an anti-war rally at the Washington Monument, hangs out with the Yippies, defeats the Chinese national team in table tennis, meets Richard Nixon, discovers the break-in at the Watergate, opens a profitable shrimping business, becomes an original investor in Apple Computers, and decides to run back and forth across the country for several years. Meanwhile, as the remarkable parade of his life goes by, Forrest never forgets Jenny (Robin Wright Penn), the girl he loved as a boy, who makes her own journey through the turbulence of the 1960s and 1970s that is far more troubled than the path Forrest happens upon. Featured alongside Tom Hanks are Sally Field as Forrest’s mother, Gary Sinise as his commanding officer in Vietnam, Mykelti Williamson as his ill-fated Army buddy who is familiar with every recipe that involves shrimp, and the special effects artists whose digital magic place Forrest amidst a remarkable array of historical events and people:
