Do you remember how fokken lekker it felt when South Africa won the rugby world cup in 2019? It is just one of those memorable events where people will be able to tell you exactly where they were, what they were doing (duh, kyking rugby!) and who they were with that day. Perhaps you would like to revisit that memory? To some extent you get to relive that moment through the incredible documentary,, Chasing the Sun created by SuperSport in collaboration with the Springboks. Expect a lump in your throat while you fight to hold back tears of joy, pride and admiration as the doccie explores some individual stories as well as coach Rassie’s empathy, belief and leadership alongside the South African national rugby team’s road to victory against all odds. It is unreal how this battered and bruised team rose to the occasion to lift the Web Ellis trophy. The aptly named Chasing the Sun is a metaphor for the Springboks’ journey and unstoppable climb.

Even if you’re not a moerse rugby fan, you will without a doubt at the very least find inspiration. Give the first episode a crack – chances are you’ll be hooked and binge all 5 episodes. It is also very good news for expats who are missing home, braais en lekker rugby op ‘ n Saterdag – Showmax subscribers all over Africa will be able to watch it, as well as subscribers in these countries: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.

Pushing the limits powered by Gazoo Racing brings you get up to speed with the world of Motorsport on both two and four wheels. It even covers gaming and go-carting. It is especially interesting seeing how the racing world is dealing with and adapting to the pandemic.
For those who are into the European League soccer and how the most unlikely teams conquered the Europa League Cup. I’m totally 100% not into soccer. I will rather watch a live stream of rolbal.
Every second South African oke I know, likes golf, so this should be a super popular doccie which Mark Nicholas presents. It looks at Africa’s major golf champions and other local sporting heroes as they play golf at some of the most iconic venues the Rainbow Nation has to offer. # 9. Ten Martin Scorsese series and movies to stream in South Africa
To say Martin Scorsese is a living legend is not an overstatement. As a director, since the 1970s he has brought some of the best movies to the screen, many now considered classics – Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Colour Of Money, Casino and many more. As a producer he has multiple credits, and his documentaries are as entertaining as any of his scripted films. Shine A Light, about the Rolling Stones’ Beacon Theatre performance during the band’s Bigger Bang tour in 2006, remains one of the best doccies I’ve seen.

#7 Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer is a “terrifying watch”
Serial killers fascinate us. Fact. Type those words into the search field, on Netflix in particular, and you’ll get dozens of results, from documentaries to scripted series and movies. The topic shows no sign of abating (simple supply and demand), and the latest addition to the platform is Night Stalker: The Hunt For A Serial Killer, which tells the story of Richard Ramirez, who terrorised Los Angeles in the summer of 1985.

#6 Griekwastad is a star-studded, slow-burn crime drama
Griekwastad is west of the mining city of Kimberley in the Northern Cape. The small, quiet town is best known for semi-precious stones, sheep farming and a grisly murder that took place in Naauwhoek on Easter Sunday 2012. The incident was initially thought to be a farm attack, but later unravelled into something darker and far more sinister.

#5 Five must-stream films shot in black and white
For decades it was believed that people dream in black-and-white. Films are essentially illusions, the stuff of dreams, so this makes sense. Even now, you’re probably thinking… “do I see colour in my dreams?” Perhaps this is why Spielberg used colour to accentuate the iconic girl in a red coat in Schindler’s List, and Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez painted Roark Jr yellow in Sin City.

#3 HBO’s Crazy, Not Insane asks the question: what makes a serial killer?
Serial killer statistics on the internet will rapidly lead you down a deep, dark rabbit hole. Quick fact: a serial killer is one who commits a series (there it is) of murders, typically following the same or similar modus operandi; a mass murderer is one who kills a lot of people at one time in one place.

#1 Interview: Gerald Steyn on short films, classic reboots and more
Gerald Steyn is relatively new to South African TV screens but hard work has definitely seen him knock a few hits out of the park in the last five years and it doesn’t seem like the enthusiastic, charming actor has any plans of slowing down soon. He is part of a new era of young talented South African actors who, especially in a time of uncertainty, will help lead the next wave of stage productions, TV series and feature films.
