It is totally expected that most okes will tune “Ek kyk nie fokken chick flieks nie, Okay?” That’s fine, dude – we have another list of lekker stuff to stream, coming up later today. So hang in there – your fragile male ego will get some nourishment, hoor? Nom-nom-nom!
For the rest of ya’ll, remember to do something nice for that special person in your life and not to do that last minute flower run to your local Spar. It is truly a sad scene, seeing okes frantically picking through the last few verlepte blomme, while at the same time trying their best to be as invisible as possible. I’m planning on going to my local supermarket to spectate this sport because this is the first year you get to see people do it in masks. But hey guys, even that little chicken run is better than doing fokol, OK? So give yourself a little pat on the back. At least you care a little bit. The question is if it is enough.
With Valentine’s Day coming up this Sunday, you’re already too late to buy alcoholic beverages (thanks vir fokol, COVID), so over to plan B – Showmax en spyker! While you’re out getting pap blomme, biltong, effies en lube, why not top up the pantry with some ingredients to put together a truly sexy and romantic meal? You will score all the points!
Here is a suggestion of 10 recipes to enjoy with our list of ten romantic movies to stream below:
Vanilla panna cotta
Next level spaghetti carbonara
Chocolate-dipped strawberries
Salted caramel popcorn pots
Beef & beer pie
Steak with mushroom puff tartlets
Tiramisu with honeycomb crunch
Smoked salmon with prawns, horseradish cream & lime vinaigrette
Seared beef with wild mushrooms & balsamic
Pink strawberry cheesecake
See if you can match up those lekker meals with these kief movies:
My Best Friend’s Girl
A lekker crude by kak funny comedy with comedian Dane Cook about a man who, as the title suggests, falls for het his best friend’s girlfriend, played by the lovely Kate Hudson.
I Still Believe
This movie is based on the rather inspiring true-life story of Christian music star Jeremy Camp and his journey of love and loss. This film even stars Shania Twain – not as herself but as one of the characters. Surprisingly Shania has acted in quote a few TV series roles.
The Vow
I remember this super sad but romantic drama with Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams from almost a decade ago and I’m gonna watch it again this weekend. A couple just got married but a car accident puts the wife (McAdams) in a coma. When she wakes up she remembers fokol and her husband (Tatum) has to work fokken hard to win her heart back again. Brilliant film!
Notting Hill
My wife insists that this movie which is more than 21 years old, is the best Christmas movie of all time and we watch it every year. I’m giving it a skip this weekend because we obviously watched it like 2 months ago. It is a true classic – a chance encounter with a major movie star turns into a major affair, upsetting the humdrum life of an unassuming bookdealer. Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone when love calls. Starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.
Sleeping with Other People
Ja, the title suggests that this is the kind of stuff that will happen to your relationship if you don’t nourish it. In this movie People find love in the strangest places. After a one-night stand in college, Lainey (Alison Brie) and Jake (Jason Sudeikis) meet again by chance more than a decade later. They suffer from the same kak: he is a womaniser and she a serial cheater and neither are able to maintain relationships. So they make a pact to keep it platonic. Pacts are mos meant to be broken.
Crazy Rich Asians
Although this movie is only a few years old, I’ve already seen it a few times and I reckon that it will become a classic because it is a first of its kind, featuring an all Asian cast in a Hollywood romcom. The storyline is basic – a New Yorker who goes to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s family, discovers that he’s insanely wealthy and that every other young woman in the country wants her out of the way – but it is entertaining as hell.
Irrational Man
No, not IRON man, Irrational Man. Jy moet mooi lees. A philosophy professor (Joaquin Phoenix) knows all about life but knows fokol about love. He is a disillusioned idealist. Pretty and bright Jill (Emma Stone) is an experienced romantic but her life is fokken deurmekaar. Could these two polar opposites fall in love? Of course they can! That’s how these fokken movies work. It is all about how they get there.
Pitch Perfect,
Pitch Perfect 2
Pitch Perfect 3
I’m treating these three as one movie and that’s how I’m kicking off the weekend – you can never have too much Rebel Wilson. Beca (Anna Kendrik) is more interested in pursuing her dream of becoming a music producer than making the most of her time at college. But then she joins an an acapella group that will change her life. In the second movie the Barden Bellas enter an international competition that no American group has ever won in order to regain their status and right to perform and in the third movie the girls reunite for one last overseas military tour where they face tough competition from other bands.
Ghost
There is a good chance that a lot of people are unaware of this movie or have never seen it, because it is turning 31 this year! This 90s horror-romance-comedy classic starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze is hailed as one of the most watchable films of its era. A brilliant movie love story with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore: a young man gets murdered but his spirit stays behind to warn his lover of impending danger.

Type those words into the search field, on Netflix in particular, and you’ll get dozens of results, from documentaries to scripted series and movies. The topic shows no sign of abating (simple supply and demand), and the latest addition to the platform is Night Stalker: The Hunt For A Serial Killer, which tells the story of Richard Ramirez, who terrorised Los Angeles in the summer of 1985. |
