“When one needs inspiration you need but just turn your gaze to the sky.” – griffin 2020
Yes, this is a quote I just made up myself because I’m trying to sound clever and inspired. Jirre, if you go outside and look up, it is very hard to imagine how far our universe stretches out. What the fuck is out there? How far does it go? Just staring in amazement and wonder gets your brain going – give it try. Make some time for it. Moenie zol rook nie, kyk net in die lug op.
How about a quote from an actual astronaut? Buzz Aldrin uttered these famous words:
“I know the sky is not the limit because there are footprints on the Moon — and I made some of them!”
Do you know who Mae C. Jemison is? She was the first black woman to travel into space and perhaps her words are the most inspiring:
“Never limit yourself because of others’ limited imagination; never limit others because of your own limited imagination.”
Once you’re done staring at the sky, go back inside and turn on your interweb streaming device, because if you want to see imagination hard at work, movies and stories set in or around space exploration is a very good place to start. We made you a moerse lekker list which should last you all weekend.
Siklus
Arikaners in space! Whoop! A Very lekker, locally slick produced Afrikaans short film starring Laudo Liebenberg, Reine Swart and Neels Van Jaarsveld. Directed by the very talented Louis Minnaar, this film tells the story of a couple traveling in space, teetering at the edge of a black hole, faced with critical decisions that could have deadly consequences. The mystery deepens when they receive cryptic messages. A lot of props for this 24 minute movie was crowd sourced. I donated some speakers and wires which you can see on one of the control panels.
Space Chickens in Space
I’m putting this high up on my list because I want to make time to watch each of the 52 episodes. Three chickens living in outer space face unthinkable challenges with technology, school, and getting along with siblings. Lekker 11 min episodes and it seems just as crazy as the adventures of Cow and Chicken from more than two decades ago. Cartoons don’t have to make sense. That’s the whole point of cartoons. Maak los!
Rick and Morty
I’m a massively huge fan of this show – I have 2 winter jackets (one Rick and one Morty) as well as 3 different long sleeves. I’m glad I’m so totally broke since the fokken lockdown started, because otherwise I would be searching for t-shirts, mouse pads and coffee mugs as well. I’m just assuming that’s the type of merch out there which is available. Please don’t tell me if there is lots of other stuff because it would drive me crazy! I also just found out that season 5 is on schedule:
“There’s an episode in Season 5 where Morty has a relationship with another female character that’s not Jessica. It’s just a great little story and my very, very longtime friend and collaborator Rob Schrab wrote it… He’s also a very tender writer – a juvenile John Hughes. He really feels heartache on a level a man his age shouldn’t… my Emmy is going to that one.”
WHOOHOO!!
Transformers
Jirre, Michael Bay. What a director! Watch this trailer below and make all those Transformer sounds with your mouth. What is it about? A war between machine races has been raging for centuries in space but unfortunately for the human race the heroic Autobots and the cunty Decepticons come to Earth. They bring with them some clue to the ultimate power held by a loser teenager, Sam (Shia LaBeouf) who really just wants a lekker car and a hot chick (Megan Fox).
He gets both.
I hate him.
Star Trek
What about just watching the gold old J.J. Abrams movie from 2009, hey? The one with Chris Pine as Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock Prime, Eric Bana as Nero and Zoe Saldana as Uhuru? This is the prequel focusing on a young Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, chronicling their first meeting at the Starfleet Academy and their first space mission. How about that?
Because if you think of space movies, you think of fokken Star Trek.
The Orville
If you haven’t watched The Orville yet, please start watching it right away! There are so many clever hat tips to Star Trek, it is insane. In fact the majority of the first season was directed by various Star Trek series alumni. It is really funny, witty and cleverly put together by Seth McFarlane who also stars in it. This is one of the best space adventure, action, comedies with its fair share of drama. The quirky crew of the USS Orville hurtle through space and meet aliens and disaster. Season three’s production has been delayed by the fokken coronavirus twice now since 2020 but I think they finally started working on it this past Decemeber.
A World Without NASA
Fokkit, imagine just for a moment, how kak the world actually would be without the existence of NASA? They’re not just all rockets and spaceships and jet fuel. NASA’s technology impacts every parts of our lives, from what you eat to who you date and this two-part doccie looks at what would actually happen if the everyday space technology all around us and which we take for granted, simply didn’t exist?
“If you took NASA technology out of our everyday system now, I wouldn’t want to eat anything!”
NASA started streaming this video live on 1 September, 2019. Although it is not a “live” view of earth, it is a series of unique and beautiful recorded views of planet Earth captured from 386 km above it. We get to look down on our planet along with the astronauts aboard the ISS. It is absolutely breathtaking!
I just leave it playing on the big TV with the sound up while I’m working. It is the most relaxing thing ever, so you don’t need an app.

#10. Bonding is still as tight as a rubber gimp suit in Season 2 First of all, if you’re looking for sexy thrills and fetishes, go somewhere else. Despite its title and reference to doms and subs and their accoutrements, Bonding is merely set in that world; the flesh of the series is the characters and their often complicated relationships with each other. |

#7 Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer is a “terrifying watch” Serial killers fascinate us. Fact.
