When you’re in the mood to watch something serious, you normally go for titles filed under the drama section. Almost every drama without fail follows the structure of exposition (background info and introduction) followed by rising action, climax, falling action and the resolution or denouncement. If one of those elements fuck out, the story bombs.
With historic and war dramas, you can build a story around what has already really, so because you can present something more authentic which has already happened, chances are that it would be more believable and possibly score higher with your audience. That’s my guess, anyway, because all 7 of these movies or series below, scored stupid high – except for the very first one, which is more political of nature. However, the same creators created a series on the Kennedy’s which scored higher, which makes me think that it has more to do with the people they focused on. The Kennedy’s got more love than Geroge HG and his laitie. This is widely know. So here we go. Have some war, history and (inner) peace this weekend.
American Dynasties: The Bush Years
Martin Sheen narrated the same series about the Kennedy’s and Ed Harris narrates this one. It offers a revealing look at the family of two of America’s most recent presidents: George HW Bush and his son George W. Bush. There are tons of archival footage and interviews to relate a story about a dynasty driven by service, power and loyalty.

Das Boot
Parallel storylines follow an inexperienced U-boat crew who has to survive a secret mission. A young German woman forced to question her loyalty to her home country or choose the French resistance in this epic World War II drama.
7.4
Les Miserables
Adapted from Victor Hugo’s classic novel, this series breathes new life into the story of fugitive Jean Valjean who Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole. She agrees to care for a factory worker’s daughter and the decision changes their lives forever. This super sad tear jerker stars Dominic West, David Oyelowo and Lily Collins.
7.6
Victoria
A three series drama which follows the the early life of Queen Victoria, from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of eighteen to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert. By season three she’s a mother of six facing the rising tide of revolution. Interesting fact: Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes were dating during this series.
8.2
Warrior
Get your popcorn, drinks or whatever other snacks you feast on when you watch quality stuff because this one is brought yo you by HBO, the absolute kings of the TV series. This story plays off during San Francisco’s Tong Wars in the 1800s. It is a gritty series which follows Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy from China who becomes mixed up in the world of organised crime. Warrior is actually based on an original series concept co-developed by Bruce Lee for a proposed TV series that ultimately was modified into the Kung Fu movie from 1972. I would start off with this series. It is really fucking good!
8.2
Rome
A British historical drama depicting the turbulent transition from Roman republic to autocratic empire which changed the entire world. Rome focusses on two Roman caught up in the bloody end of Julius Caesar’s rule and the series shows in clever detail, the differing lives of citizen – from the most common to the wealthiest.
8.7
Chernobyl
2020 is a terrible year, but put in perspective it is nothing compared to what the people from Ukraine had to go through in 1986 – a huge explosion erupted at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This series not only tells the true stories of those brave men and women who tried to contain the disaster but also those who gave their lives preventing a subsequent and worse one. Just a word of warning – if you’re an animal lover, especially dogs, episode four is going to absolutely break your heart. Try and skip past it if you can because it is really heart wrenching. But don’t skip the episode itself because this is one of the best TV series ever produced.

4# Ten of the most entertaining talk shows to watch online People love to talk, especially about themselves. Well, most of them. [feature_headline type=”left, center, right” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h3″ icon=”lightbulb-o”] Our randomized trailer pick of the week [/feature_headline]
Each week we take a number from 1 to 10 from our list of suggestions and put it through a randomizer to choose a trailer to show you. This week it landed on our number 2 spot, “Bolhuis season 2“. I wasn’t even aware of the existence of this series and it weirded me out a bit, because no lies: Mike Bolhuis was legit my next door buurman in the mid 90s for around a year long.
Mike Bolhuis, who is regarded as one of South Africa’s top investigators, has been involved in some of the country’s biggest murder and fraud cases. In this series, we delve deeper into the issues that have already landed on his desk.
