Ons het gisteraand na die premiere screening van Metallica se nuwe movie "Through The Never" gaan kyk in 3D. Want ons is mos fokken special en word na sulke tipe shit ge-summon. Lekker diktril. Met free popcorn en Coke on offer het ons dit goed gedink om so bietjie vodka in te smokkel om so ekstra kick uit uit die 3D vibes uit te kry. Net jammer Chris van Black Cat Bones het nie die shampoe botteltjie mooi uitgespoel voor hy die vodka ingedoos het nie. Maar wat kan jy maak? Jy fokken drink hom maar en kak smooth vodka borrels die volgende oggend…

Terug by die movie, though. Kyk, music DVDs en BluRay disks is altyd 'n fokken wenner vir die ouens wat hulle music collections ernstig opvat en hierdie enetjie gaan ook straight na die collection rakkie toe sodra hy release word op BluRay. Dit is egter iets jy vir-fokken-seker eers op die big screen moet gaan kyk. Jy het Metallica gaan kyk toe hulle hierso was, right? Nou in die movie theatre kan jy nog nader aan die live performance sit.

Daar is so effens van 'n storielyn – Trip (Dane DeHaan) is Metallica se roadie wat op 'n dringende mission gestuur word tydens Metallica se live set vir 'n sold-out arena. Soos wat die gig aangaan, word daar nou en dan terug ge-cut na die roadie toe en al die kak wat hy moet deurgaan om 'n belangrike package vir Metallica op te laai. Soos Trip se storie aangaan, progress Metallica se live concert wat deur 24 kameras gelyktydig ge-cover word. Daar is massive pyrotechnics op stage, befokte angles met 3D wat jou laat voel of die band raakafstand voor jou staan en jol en natuurlik is die soundtrack en die setlist doodeenvoudig befok. Jirre, en die stage se next level props en belgiting… Dis Metallica, for fuck's sake! Die storielyn is maar net 'n bysaak vir die live performace, maar dis so fokken goed ingewerk en ge-edit dat alles lekker saamvloei. Die main action is op die stage en Metallica kry reg reg waaroor baie bands net kan droom: fok daai stage op!

Vir 'n uur-en-'n-half wil jy nerens anders as vir die screen kyk nie. Ek belowe. Van julle outjies sal onthou dat ons so ruk terug face-to-face met oom James gesit en praat het. (Gaan lees dit hier as jy nog nie het nie). Oor Through The Never het hy ons dit getune:

Why is it different? Well, there's kind of a back-story to the whole thing. One of our managers wanted to do a 'Best Of' concert. I guess for some of the fans who have not seen 'Master of Puppets' or 'Ride the Lightning' or the Destruction Scene from 'Load' or Doris crumbling from 'And justice for all…' or any of those stages.

So we've taken it to another level, to a huge arena kind of feel where all of these props are huge and then we started talking about a movie. You know, why don't we film this in 3D and well, why don't we make the movie first and then tour the stage?
 
But building the stage, practicing on it and all of these things were like… oh my God. Tough trying to make it look comfortable when we haven't even played on it before.

We talked about making the film the first priority, not so much the crowd. The cameras are the main focus, we wanted the point of view of us.

There's also a storyline, there's an actual narrative that's happening. So it's about a runner at one of our concerts and he gets sent out on a mission and all these tragedies, all these trials and tribulations take place. He has to go collect something for the band and we experience the things that he runs into out there.

It sounds completely weird, but it actually works really well and the 3D stuff is not just something stupid, like me pointing into the camera. There's some serious depth to it and there's some destruction and insanity happening. We wanted it very, very intense
