As daar een ding is wat my die poes in maak is dit telemarketers. Fok weet. Werk dit nog om mense te irriteer op die foon? Verkoop hulle actually nog goed so?
Dis gewoonlik as jy by die werk is besig om tyd op Facebook te verwyl wanneer jou foon lui met ‘n “Unknown Number”. Dan antwoord jy maar en soos ‘n poes is daar eers ‘n 4 sekonde stilte voor jou tweede “HELLO!?” interrupt word met: “Hello how are you?”.
Of soos nou die dag toe ek by die huis wegsluimer vir ‘n afternoon nap en die landlyn lui my wakker. Deur die kak staan ek op en antwoord die foon. “Hallo, how are you?” … Stilte. Haal diep asem… “I am fine. How are you? Can I help you?” “I am fine, I am calling from the security company”. Jy ontspan vir ‘n oomblik en vra: “Oh are you calling from ADT?” Want nou dink jy daar is iets heavy fout. En die doos aan die ander kant reply: “Oh do you have ADT? I am wondering if you would be interested in upgrading your security system.” Ek reply nou taamlik moerig: “But if you are calling from ADT you should know that I have just recently upgraded my whole system with ADT.” Die reply: “Oh no sir I am not calling from ADT, I am calling from VriesDoos! Security to find out if you would like to upgrade to our service?” Ek “How did you get my number?”, “Off the internet sir”, “Where on the internet?” vra ek en my bloed begin borrel. “No sir you see we pay for this service from Telkom called Cybertrade and with that service we can access people’s details electronically based on the areas where they live.” Kyk dis net hier waar die gesprek ‘n turn vir Witbank vat en dis nie nodig om verder in detail te gaan nie.
Maar as it turns out het Telkom ‘n service genaamd Cybertrade. En Cybertrade het ‘n produk genaamd CyberTel wat die volgende doen:
“CyberTel is an exclusive service to CyberTrade. This service allows subscribers to gain access to Telkom’s electronic telephone directories and access information on consumer and business customers that are listed in the white pages. Information searches include telephone and fax numbers, toll-free numbers and telex numbers. The service allows for various different ways of searching the database and receiving information on customer particulars.”

En dis presies so databasis wat telemarketers gebruik om jou details te harvest en dan hulle second rate kak aan jou te probeer afsmeer.
Ek kan nie onthou dat ek ooit vir Telkom toestemming gegee het om my details te verkoop aan VriesDoos! Security nie. En dis definitief nie legal om my oor die foon te harass en kak te probeer verkoop nie sonder my toestemming nie.
