Question to the “National and University Library” of Iceland:
I hope someone could give me some more information regarding a South African song apparently banned in Iceland.
Does the words “Ahadi hooi Skarumba!” in this song have any meaning in Icelandic?
I would really appreciate if someone could clear this up for me. There are lots of rumours about this in South Africa but I have never read anything in the press. Google translate isn’t much help. These words could maybe mean something in Icelandic dialect.
Answer:
Firstly there are no Icelandic dialects to speak of. These words have no meaning in Icelandic but that does not exclude that these words might have origin in Icelandic, but if so they have been distorted beyond understanding. There are some nonsense Scout songs but I don’t know them.
Griffin asb nie so baie tos op die website skryf nie.
Met vriendelike groet
